Loplop Lounge was imagined as an art and music-focused beer lounge located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, a blue-collar town that had arguably “seen better days.” For decades, businesses on Queen Street had shuttered, eventually leaving this downtown core a shell of its former self. Loplops hoped to be a leader in the rejuvination of downtown Sault Ste. Marie.
The loplop name originated from the red bird-like character that was a muse and alter-ego of surrealist artist Max Ernst. The logo was intended to be playful and approachable and signify the inclusivity of a bar that promoted local music and art and hoped to invite people back to the city core that had been recently so neglected.
